MOJO GIVES THREE STAR REVIEW TO NEW DAVE BERRY ALBUM FEATURING JUNKYARD ANGELS AND PRODUCED BY JULIAN PIPER

'Britain's most charismatic stage performer even influenced the Sex Pistols'

Berry demands respect. Whilst other Pop'n'roll acts from the '60's have opted to become Working Dave Berry CD men's club fodder, he's continued to accrue esteem. And this album, his first since 1987 indicates nothing's about to change. Guitarist Julian Piper's outfit The Junkyard Angels replace The Cruisers as Berry's road companions for this trip and steer things along in authentic blues band mode, spewing excellent slide throughout Mercury Blues and providing a righteous line in harmonica and keyboard licks as Sheffield's original man in black delivers his own particular vocal take on Rockabilly standards through to material by J.J.Cale, John Hiatt, Dickie Betts and Tony Joe White. While there's nothing particularly remarkable about Berry's voice, somehow he's always been able to make the pieces fit.

Recorded in just three days some years back, this album has lain fallow until its recent release by the Blues Matters label. Produced by Julian at Dave Berry's request who knew of his successful work with American blues artists, the album presents a new and darker side of Dave Berry, far removed from the man who cut 'The Crying Game'. Featured on the album are old Junkyard members Jeff Fuller, Craig Milverton, Steve Ewart and Dave Eustace. To order your copy, please contact julian.piper@btinternet.com.
